Getting healthier both physically and mentally holds many people back because not everyone is ready for change.

However, years ago I started taking steps to improve my overall health. And, because each step was followed by improvement, I began to embrace even more change.

Yes, you too can start improving your health one step at a time!

16 Easy Ways To Get Healthier

1. Drink More Lemon Water

Drink a least 2 litres of water each day including one 16 oz glass of warm water with the juice of a fresh squeezed lemon; preferably first thing in the morning because drinking fresh lemon water helps detox your liver and cleanse your entire body.

Above all, lemons are a mighty fruit that are rich in vitamins, minerals and contain bioflavonoids that can seriously boost the immune system and reduce inflammation in the body.

2. Eat More Fruit

For years, I was afraid of fruit mainly because I was told eating too much sugar causes break outs, it's high in calories and it weakens your immune system. I learned that I was completely wrong and these are myths!!

In fact, fruit contains natural sugar with essential nutrients and minerals which keep your body healthy on a cellular level, killing pathogens and fighting off disease.

That is why you should eat fruit when healing from an illness or simply to maintain good health.

Once I began eating liver healthy thanks to Medical Medium, Anthony Williams, Liver Rescue which essentially includes loads of fresh fruit, lots of veggies, eliminating problematic foods i.e. eggs, dairy, cheese, high fat foods, alcohol, excessive vinegar, caffeine, gluten, corn, canola oil, pork products, meats that contain hormones and antibiotics and eating less fat.

Guess what happened, I have not been sick with a cold since, I no longer have indigestion, brain fog, constipation, depression, pain or cystic acne. Eating liver healthy is now my lifestyle!

3. Eat More Veggies

Eat more veggies to improve your health long term. Half of your plate portion should be fruit and vegetables. So many of us have heard this ratio before, but like to ignore it. Remember, veggies contain most of the vitamins and minerals required in a day as well as some protein.

Studies show that eating this way will have the most positive impact on your health long term which is why I eat a lot of stir fries and salads. It tastes so great mixing various veggies together along with fresh herbs. Also, in a salad you can add a delicious homemade salad dressing to mask the intense raw taste.

4. Eat More Greens

Dark leafy greens are full of rich nutrients, that alkaline and detox the body. For instance, eating more greens or even adding green superfood supplements into your diet is an easy way that can help to improve the aging process, initiate weight loss, and enhance liver function.

In addition they can also:

  • Reduce inflammation
  • Strengthen Your Bones
  • Lower Blood Pressure
  • Regulate Bowel Movements
  • Enhance Brain Function
  • Repel Depression
  • Lower Cholesterol

You may be wincing right now, thinking it could be a struggle, but don't fret there is an easy way to do this.

I hide greens in my smoothies, soups, casseroles and make colourful salads.

5. Eat Less Meat

Eat less meat to get healthier. Choose a plant based protein instead of meat a few times a week. Studies show that vegetarians weigh less, have a lower risk of heart disease and diabetes and a reduced risk of diet related death.

We require protein in our diet, but we can benefit from getting protein from better sources than just meat. Forgive me meat lovers!!! But, meat is high in fat, calories and most meat nowadays is injected with hormones and antibiotics which feeds pathogens in the body.

Whether to improve your health and even cut back the grocery bill, try switching out your meat a few times weekly with these 13 healthy plant based proteins.

6. Fast Walk

Studies show that exercise such as walking everyday can enhance your mood while relieving feelings of stress, anxiety and even depression.

In fact, after my first power walk, I felt happier. My mood changed right away and I was excited to do it again the next day!

Walking is great for weight loss if you stick to a routine. Meaning, if you fast walk 45 minutes a day, you can lose fat in your belly, butt and thighs. Also, if you stick to a regime it will help you keep the weight off long term.

Also, walking releases endorphins which triggers a positive feeling in the body.

7. Get Plenty of Sleep

Getting plenty of sleep can be difficult for many people who are living on autopilot, living with insomnia, anxiety or a sleep disorder.

However, according to the Sleep Foundation “Sleep powers the mind, restores the body, and fortifies virtually every system in the body. And, their research shows that adults require 7-9 hours of quality sleep a night in order to maintain good health.”

So, if you are simply living on autopilot and not giving yourself enough time to sleep, you can make the choice to go to bed sooner. But, if you have trouble sleeping it's best to talk to your Naturopathic Doctor, Healer or Healthcare Practitioner in order to maintain good health.

8. Meditate

Meditating each day is a great habit to get into. Simply because it's been practiced for centuries and scientific studies have proven for decades the effectiveness of meditation.

Breathwork is an effective breathing technique or breathing meditation that helps improve mental, physical and spiritual well-being. For example, it provides conscious awareness of your inhales, exhales and creates deep focused breathing.

Breathing techniques are tools for major transformation and healing. Breathwork encompasses a broad range of whole-being therapeutic practices and exercises used to relieve mental, physical, and/or emotional tension. ~Deepak Chopra

These exercises range from 10 minutes up to an hour. I practice breathing exercises daily and find them very effective especially first thing in the morning. Soma breathing exercise is my favourite! I feel so light and energetic afterward.

The exercise below is only 20 minutes.

Breathwork is known to help improve issues including:

11. Emotion Code Therapy

Emotion Code is an effective form of holistic energy healing created by Dr. Bradley Nelson. It's a powerful therapy technique that identifies and releases trapped emotions in the body that cause blockages in the energy channels which can manifest pain, dis-ease, dysfunction and create feelings of being stuck, depressed and broken.

An Emotion Code Practitioner uses muscle testing to locate the trapped emotions and blockages in the energy channel in the body and releases them. Releasing the energies of these negative emotions can create great shifts in every area of your life…. emotional, mental and physical.

According to Dr. Bradley Nelson, “Our emotional baggage consists of actual energies; the energies of intense emotional events that we’ve experienced that are still stuck in our physical bodies. These energies distort the normal energy field of the body, creating pain, malfunction, all manner of disease, whether physical, mental or emotional. In addition, these energies (trapped emotions) are the driving force behind post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, phobias, and all manner of mental illnesses.”

This simple method is helping people worldwide to feel happier, healthier and lighter.

12. Have Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an (ancient) Chinese Medicine treatment (over 5000 years old) using tiny little needles in specific energy pathways (meridians) in the skin that stimulates energy (qi) flow in the body. According to Licensed Certified Acupuncturist, Dr. Katrin Schubert, “each meridian is associated with an organ system. An imbalance in the flow of qi throughout a meridian can compromise a person’s health causing pain or dis-ease.”

Therefore, you can go for acupuncture treatment to enhance healing or simply to maintain good health.

Whether you have an illness or disease, acupuncture is an effective treatment that can help you stimulate self-healing in the body.

Conventional medicine has embraced the effectiveness of acupuncture. In fact, research into acupuncture as a medical treatment used by Physicians has grown in the past 20 years. Click here to learn more and read some of the studies.

13. Avoid Processed Foods

Avoid process foods as much as possible if you want to improve your health. Most of the foods that you purchase are heavily processed with the exception of fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains or raw nuts which are still “minimally processed” because they require washing, removing unwanted parts, refrigeration or freezing. But, this is ok because they haven't been stripped of all of their nutrients and nothing harmful has been added. In other words, you should avoid processed foods that contain harmful additives such as, artificial or refined substances. Simply because they aren't good for you and can cause serious long term heath effects.

14. Change Your Beliefs

If you have weight or any health related issues you may need to change your beliefs in order to lose weight and improve your overall health. Did you know that your mind stores 95% of memories, emotions and how your physical body operates?

In other words, you may be harboring weight or health issues that you are not consciously aware of!

Close your eyes, take a deep breath and ask yourself why you are heavier then you feel you should be:

  • Are you protecting yourself emotionally from something or someone?
  • What are you hiding or covering up?
  • What in your life are you sick of?
  • Do you believe that you have health issues because of genetics?
  • Do you believe that you deserve to be healthy?

Have you tried everything and still can't shed weight or health related issues? Book a session with me. I am a Psych-K Facilitator  and can help you change your beliefs with a simple technique that uses muscle testing to communicate with your subconscious mind. To clarify, whole brain body postures and movements cause neuron firings in both brain hemispheres. Therefore, creating a whole brain state allowing subconscious changes to occur instantly.

This scientific technique created by Psychotherapist, Rob Williams is helping people all over the world improve the quality of their lives. To learn more click here or book a session.

15. Ditch Dairy & Gluten

Many people who give up dairy and gluten lose weight and improve digestion! Also, when I gave them up, my digestion improved tremendously. I no longer had bloating issues, pains from indigestion and my skin improved.

Dairy and Gluten are problematic foods that can put strain on your digestive system. According to Medical Medium, Anthony Williams dairy fat in your bloodstream helps to breed viruses and bacteria. Dairy is also mucus producing, and a major cause of inflammation (along with Gluten), allergies and weight gain.

So, if you want to shed some pounds and feel better try cutting dairy and gluten from your everyday diet and if needed have a cheat day here and there!

16. Start An Exercise Routine

Do you lack the motivation required to workout regularly, but want to improve your physical health?

For years, I have worked out with the intention of maintaining a healthy weight and staying toned. However, the motivation required to keep up a vigorous workout routine began to fade over the years. Mainly because my passions, work interests, family and friends, like so many others, started to take priority. Honestly, I believe that we strive to give sooo much of ourselves to everything and everyone, it exhausts us and exercising can feel like just another daunting task.

I am not an expert when it comes to fitness; but I do understand the importance of exercising in order to keep your heart healthy and release endorphins to enhance your mentality.

So, I created a 20 minute workout that is easy to sustain anywhere at anytime. It will get your heart pumping and make you sweat a little. Bonus, sweating supports your liver by getting rid of unwanted toxins! FYI sometimes if I am pressed for time I will even do it while my husband and I watch a movie!

Easy Exercise Routine

Start with 30 each and work your way up to 100.

  • Basic Squats
  • Push Ups
  • Sumo Squats
  • Sit Ups
  • Calf Raises
  • Leg Lunges
  • Butt Lift Bridges
