Medjool Dates are very nutritious with amazing health benefits. They are rich in vitamins A & B and minerals manganese, calcium and potassium. This tropical single stone (pit) fruit is native to the Atlantic coast of Morocco and comes from a palm tree known as the Phoenix dactylifera. There are many varieties of dates but Medjool's are my favourite. Probably because they are dried (not dehydrated like many dates) which is why they remain so gooey and moist. Honestly, you can eat them often (in moderation of course) as a snack or as a guilt free dessert because of the 6 health benefits of Medjool Dates. Suffice it to say, they do curb sugar cravings!
6 Health Benefits of Medjool Dates
1. Rich in Antioxidants
Dates are considered a fruit highest in antioxidants especially manganese which shields the body from free radicals that can destroy or damage cells in your body. Might want to keep your pantry stocked year round!

Getting enough healthy fiber in your diet can help keep you regular. Studies show that consuming 20-35 grams of fiber daily will keep your stool soft and prevent constipation. Making Medjool Dates a great contender due to their high fiber content.
When I refer to healthy fiber, I mean fruits, veggies, beans, legumes and some gluten-free grains. For a list of high fiber foods that feed healthy gut bacteria and keep your body healthy click here.

Medjool dates contain a high amount of potassium even more than bananas which most people lean towards when they need a fix. Did you also know studies show diets high in potassium may protect against stroke and kidney disease?

Dates are considered a heart healthy food as they are cholesterol free, help control your blood pressure and heart rate which can prevent stroke and heart disease.

6. Low Glycemic Index
Great news for those worried dates will affect your sugar. Dates score from low to medium on the glycemic index. So, you don't have to worry about your sugar spiking after a meal.
How To Eat Dates?
Medjool dates can simply be eaten out of your hand or I pair mine up with cucumber as an afternoon snack that provides me lots of energy to workout before dinner. Also, for a dessert I pair them with Pecans. OMG so yummy!!
Some people like to add them to salads. I don't like sweet in my salad, but occasionally add some to a fruit salad.
